Halloween is here, and Pepsi made the most of it.
2013 the drinks giant issued an ad showing a can of Pepsi dressed in shiny red cape, a swirling logo, resembling their rivals’, Coca-Cola.
“We wish you a scary Halloween!”
The companies intention was obviously to offer the idea that being like Coca-Cola for Halloween would be “scary”. On the first read, the concept is not very strong, as you might not have noticed that they purposely misspelled the classic American brand’s name as “Cola Coca” on the cape.
A simple yet effective campaign that utilizes the energy and emotions felt by two bitter rivals, and Pepsi will show you why. It’s an advertisement which is cheeky but not overly offensive, and consolidates its image as a playful, fun brand. Nice one, Pepsi.
